Joyce Marie Duffy

Joyce Marie (Carr) Duffy passed away the morning of June 16, 2016, at the age of 64. She was born on September 28, 1951, the daughter of Larry and Lorraine Carr, and was raised in Burke, NY.

Joyce received an Associate degree in Journalism from North Country Community College, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Family Service and Home Economics from SUNY Plattsburgh. While at SUNY Plattsburgh, Joyce met the love of her life, Ronald Duffy and so began a love of a lifetime. Joyce married Ron on August 25, 1973, and they have been an inspiring couple ever since. While raising their family in Millbrook, NY, Joyce dedicated her career to the field of Social Work. She started at the Dutchess County Infirmary, a nursing home. She held a number of liaison roles until she accepted a position as Foster Care Supervisor and led a team dedicated to Foster Care and Children and Family Services at the Dutchess County Department of Social Services. Towards the end of her career, she moved on to Child Protective Services and stayed there until she retired in 2005.

Joyce will be forever remembered for her generous spirit, mischievous smile, love of scratch-off lottery tickets, and casinos. Most importantly, she will be remembered for her natural ability to bring people together. Wherever she went, she impacted people positively. She was quick to smile, laugh, and make memories which will outlast her lifetime. The telephone was her lifeline to her friends and family and she was always quick to share a story, check in on people and pray for them. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, thrilled and proud Grandma, and faithful friend to the very end.

Joyce was predeceased by her son Michael Duffy; sister Cindy Swart; and parents Larry and Lorraine Carr. She is survived by her devoted husband Ronald Duffy of 42 years and their children - Lynn Duffy and her husband Michael of Rochester, NY and Eric Duffy and his wife Elizabeth of Durham, NC; granddaughter Esme Duffy; brother William Carr and his wife Arlene of Burke, NY; sister Gail Bertsche and her husband Jeff of Millbrook, NY; and many beloved cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends.

Family and friends are invited to call at Ross Funeral Homes in Mooers, NY, on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, from 4:00 PM- 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Saint Patrick's Church in Rouses Point, NY at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow immediately after in Burke, NY at Saint George Cemetery. Those who wish to make the trip to the Burke cemetery are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which was one of Joyce's favorite charities.
