Stanley LaPier Obituary

Stanley J. LaPier, 82, of West Chazy died on May 15, 2018 at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was the son of Raymond J. and Beatrice LaPier of West Chazy.  Stanley graduated in 1953 from Mooers Central School.  He joined the Air Force from 1954 -1962 and served in the Korean War.

 

He was married to Leita Mae Roberts LaPier for 44 years. Together they had seven children:  Alan, Sharon, Sheila, Cassandra, Shelly, Christopher and Dana.  He was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Beatrice, his wife Leita, his children Alan and Sheila, his brother Wendell, and son-in-law Jim Hurd.

 

Stanley was a Corrections Officer at Dannemora Correctional Facility for 27 years.  During that time, he worked on his family farm, helping his brother with various farm chores. Later in life, he proudly delivered hay to the Miner Institute for his brother Wayne.

 

Stanley was an unselfish man, generously giving of his food, time and efforts for those around him-- family, friends and those in need. He was civic minded, involved in community activities his entire adult life.  His affiliations included being a post commander of VFW Post 852, a member of St. Joseph's Church and Chazy Lions Club, Grand Knight of Mooers Knights of Columbus, West Chazy Volunteer Fire Department, assessor for the town of Chazy for 2 terms, and Republican town and county council member. Recently he received a certificate of appreciation recognizing him for 50 years of service to the VFW's National Veterans Service Program.

 

During his final chapter, Stanley's life was filled with his family, cooking, and gardening. He is known as having one of the best gardens in West Chazy, where he generously shared his vegetables with family members and anyone who stopped by. He also, enjoyed delivering vehicles for Riley Ford.

 

Survivors include his children, Sharon (Tony Garrow), Hugh LaMoy, Shelly (Thomas Maliniak), Cassandra (Calvin Hewson), Chris (Diane LaPier), Dana (Katrina LaPier); grandchildren Jason, Heather (Eric Brothers), Michelle (Edward Galka) and Jennifer; great grandchildren Kai and Chloe, and great-great grandchildren Theodore and Canaan.  He also survived by his brothers and sisters: Elwood and Carol LaPier, Henry and Beverly Gooley, Donna Filion, Wayne LaPier, and Gerald and Arlene Jabaut.  Survivors also include Morris and Pauline Roberts, Rita Roberts, Janet Roberts, Rufus Radideau, Daylord Trombly, and Jack and Margaret Dragoon.

 

Calling hours will be Friday, May 18th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ross Funeral Home, 2586 Route 11, Mooers, New York.  A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 19th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy.  There will be a reception to follow at the church hall.

 

Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center.
