It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alfred L. Matott, aged 95, who left this world on March 17, 2026. Born on August 18, 1930, in Champlain, NY, Alfred was a lifelong resident of his beloved Champlain community. He dedicated his long and industrious life to family, friends, and his work, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.
Alfred was a devoted father and grandfather, survived by his cherished children: Catherine (Bruce) Larson, Robin Bechard and her companion, Hank Forette, Timothy (Debra) Matott, and Christopher (Donna) Matott. He took immense pride in his family, which also includes 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren who will carry forward his spirit and values.
A proud veteran of the Air Force, Alfred brought his work ethic and dedication to several esteemed local companies. He served as a foundry foreman at Sheridan Iron Works, worked as a welder at Harris Graphics, and was the lead maintenance person at Kimpex, spending over 70 years in the same building. His skills and leadership made a lasting impact on his colleagues and the industry.
Alfred was a significant figure at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain, where he was an active parishioner and part of the Knights of Columbus. He found joy and fulfillment in woodworking, golfing, and bowling, and treasured the time spent fishing in his younger years.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain on March 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Family, friends, and all who knew Alfred are invited to attend and celebrate his remarkable life. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to St. Mary’s Church in Champlain. A reception will follow.
Alfred will be deeply missed, yet his warmth and wisdom will forever remain in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him. May he rest in peace.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Mary Matott; his wife, June; his brother, Alvin Matott; and sisters, Veronica LaValley, Atella Coulombe and Agatha Racette.
