Alfred J. Raymond, Jr., 97, of Rouses Point, went to the arms of the Lord on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

 

Alfred was born January 27, 1928 on Canal Street in Champlain to Alfred J. Sr. and Florence (Bulrice) Raymond. Al was an only child, was never married or had any children. He survived his cousin, Sylvia Zerblus, of Hudson Falls, NY.

 

After graduating from high school, Alfred joined the U.S. Army and served in Japan during World War II.  When returning home, he went to work at Sheridan Iron Works and later Harris Graphics, retiring after 35 years. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Patricks Roman Catholic Church in Rouses Point, NY.

 

Alfred loved playing golf with his friends, Bill Russell, Esq, of Keeseville, and Steven Frederick of Clinton Community College and once said that it was nice to have an attorney on the course, in case he had “trouble with his game.” Alfred was a fine proper gentleman living a life of simplicity, integrity, independence, and humility and was rewarded with longevity and fine and caring neighbors and friends.

 

Ten years ago he became acquainted with Tom Dart of Plattsburgh.  They went to St. Patrick's Church together and they traveled to places he hadn’t seen before. The two became very close, and two years ago, Tom called Al his “adopted dad,” and he called Tom “Sonny Boy.”

 

Calling hours will take place Friday, May 16, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Ross Funeral Home in Champlain. A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.  A Graveside service will be held at St.Mary’s Cemetery on Church St., Champlain, NY.
