Allan F. Nautel Obituary

Allan F. Nautel, 83, passed away on April 4, 2025 at the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

 

He was born in Malone, New York, on February 28, 1942, the son of William and Mae (Fadden) Nautel.

 

Allen worked for the United States Forest Service in Oregon on the Mount Hood National Forest from 1963 to 1964. He served in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1972 and was stationed in Turkey, UK, Utah, Thailand, Vietnam and Colorado.

 

He married Merrie (Mero) on December 14, 1970 in Fort Shafter, Hawaii.

 

After discharge from the United States Air Force, he worked for Detroit Diesel Allison and Brockway Motors in Albany. In 1979, he started working for New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as an Environmental Conservation Officer, retiring after 23 years of service. Allan loved the outdoors and all it had to offer.

 

He was a 40 plus year member of the Rouses Point Fire Department, and a past president of the Montgomery Hose, Hook and Ladder Company. He was a Life Member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Allan was also a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 42, a Eucharistic Minister at St. Patrick’s Church and a member of the Rouses Point Sportsman Club.

 

Allan was a good natured man who was always happy and liked to make people laugh. He enjoyed bringing happiness to friends and strangers alike.

 

Allan is predeceased by his parents, William and Mae; a brother, Bill and Charlotte Nautel; a sister, Susan; in-laws, Harold and Bette Mero; as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

Allan is survived by his wife of 54 years, Merrie; brothers-in-law, Marc and Chris Mero and Hal and Linda Mero; sister-in-law Buffy and Bill Little; as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Rouses Point. A burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
