In Loving Memory of Anthony “Tony” Hill, who passed away suddenly at his home in Plattsburgh, New York. (September 8, 1964-December 14, 2025)

Tony was born in Malone, NY, and spent cherished childhood summers there and at Chateaugay Lake, where he could often be found waterskiing, boating, and playing baseball alongside the Hill family and his beloved “Baba,” Adrian Wood. From an early age, Tony’s athletic talents were his trademark. He attended Saranac Central School, Mount Assumption Institute, and Clinton Community College, excelling in sports at every level and earning the nickname “The Thrill” for his exciting performances on the field and court.

He brought his passion for sports to coaching his children, Jordan and Kristen, on local youth sports teams. As a coach, he modeled fairness and humility, influencing countless kids to be kind, selfless team players. 

Wherever he worked, Tony brought warmth, kindness, and an easy smile, serving as a gracious front man for true human connection. Those who worked alongside him—or were helped by him—were truly fortunate.

Tony was a lifelong, die-hard New York Yankees fan and armchair statistician. His encyclopedic sports knowledge was only rivaled by his deep appreciation and knowledge of musical genres, particularly The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and unashamedly, Yacht Rock. In the car, he was a dashboard drummer who never missed a beat.

Tony loved running, sitting outdoors with the sun on his face, and trips to the coast of Maine. He searched every restaurant for the perfect bowl of French onion soup. He was famous for making the best spaghetti meat sauce, a labor of love he happily adapted for the vegetarians in his life.

Tony was deeply sentimental, carefully preserving every piece of his children’s grade-school artwork, a stone found on a hike with his wife at Point au Roche, and shells gathered during a family beach vacation. He saved every birthday card he ever received, holding close the love they carried and treasuring the connections behind each one.

He adored his family with a deep, abiding love. Even the family pets, Targa, Katie, Gigi, Frisky and Gunther, were fortunate to experience his warmth and caring.  He was a loving, generous and hardworking husband who made each morning cup of coffee special. 

His smile and his laugh were his greatest assets, bringing joy to those around him. His absence will be felt profoundly, but the memory of his kindness, generosity, and joyful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. 

Tony is survived by his wife and partner of 14 years, Julie Canepa; his mother, Lynda (Wood) Bevins; his children, Kristen (Hill) Luh of Marietta, GA; Jordan Hill of Plattsburgh, NY; and Ava Goble of Chazy, New York; son-in-law Daniel Luh; granddaughters, Camilla and Nomi Luh; and cousin Shara Wood and her husband, Dan Schlacter.

Tony would have wanted everyone to hold their families a little closer this holiday season. A celebration of his life will be held in the new year.
