Beverly Jane Bechard (Bev) 80, of North Port Florida passed away Tuesday, October 1st at Tidewell Hospice, with her family by her side.

 

Bev was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y. on December 27th, 1943, to Frank and Jennie (Cronkite) Hoag. She graduated from NCCS in 1962. Bev married the love of her life, Claude Bechard, on September 29, 1962, and spent 62 wonderful years by his side.

 

Bev worked for Carmen Santor at Clinton County Probation Dept. After raising her family, she returned to work at the Village of Rouses Point, becoming the Clerk and Village Administrator. During her time as Administrator, Bev was instrumental in bringing senior housing to the village. Bev was a dedicated member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church of Rouses Point and also St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in North Port, FL. Bev was an active member of the Rouses Point Fire Dept. Auxiliary, working many years organizing July 4th chicken barbecues, along with Claude. Bev was also instrumental in the founding of North Country Malt Supply alongside her husband and son Bryan.

 

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 62 years, Claude Bechard, children; Thomas Bechard (Theresa), Robin Montpelier (Jay) and Bryan Bechard (Michelle), eight grandchildren; Nathan Young (Morgan), Jessica (Bechard)Helms (Chip), Stephen Young (Melisa), Karl Bechard (Courtney), Laura Bechard (Clint), Matthew Smith, Jacob Bechard, and Morgan Bechard. Beverly also had 7 great-grandchildren and was lovingly known as Gigi. Bev also leaves behind two sisters: Linda Lucas (Wayne) and Penny Parrott (Michael) and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Bev was predeceased by her parents Frank and Jennie Hoag, Frank and Florence Bechard, brother in law Ronald Bechard and brother in law, Wayne Lucas.

 

Bev loved to take trips, cruises, golf, camp with family and friends, sing in her church choir and Christmas Cantata, shop with her sisters and get her nails done, and spend time with family and friends. Upon retiring, Bev and Claude moved to North Port, FL in 2002.

 

Calling Hours will be held Tuesday Oct. 8th from 5-8 pm at Ross Funeral Home in Mooers, N.Y. A funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Rouses Point, N.Y. on Wednesday October 9th at 11:00 am. Interment will take place after the funeral service at Maple Hill Cemetery in Rouses Point. A reception will be held at North Country Golf Club immediately following interment. Donations can be made in Bev’s name to local Hospice Programs or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. A memorial will take place on Sunday October 20th at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in North Port, FL for Florida friends and family.
