Christine J. Barriere

Christine Marie Barriere (Johnson), 70, of Rouses Point, NY, passed away on July, 5th 2023 in her home of natural causes. Chris was born on August 3, 1952 to Donald B. Johnson and Alice L. Johnson, in Auburn, NY. After graduating from Dannemora Central High School in 1970, Chris went on to be a nurse’s aid at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, where she worked for six years. Many people remember Chris from being a manager at McDonald’s in Champlain, a manager at Git’N Go Duty Free Shop, and a manager at The Advocacy and Resource Center where she retired from in 2008. 

Chris met Romeo Elzeor Barriere, the love of her life, and married him in 1975, and went on to have two children, Jennifer Lynn Barriere and Jamie Lee Barriere. During their 48 years of marriage, Chris and Romeo watched their family grow and change, shared trips near and far, and shared a love that is reflected in the strength of their family. 

Chris loved her dog, JJ, dearly. JJ followed her from breakfast to bed. She loved kids, especially her grandchildren. She ran her own daycare for years, and kids loved her! She would play for hours on end with them and was always quick to offer a new game and add excitement. Chris was a Zumba instructor for years, she created playlists, practiced her moves, and got other people to practice with her. She was passionate about raising money for the American Cancer Society with her husband and friends. Two of the main fundraising events that she would attend, coordinate, and lead are the Relay for Life, and Potty Patrol at the Clinton County Fair. Chris loved spending time dancing, eating, having fun, and laughing with her friends at the Rouses Point Legion, or anywhere they landed. She especially loved happy hour margaritas. Chris owned 10 campers (and a bigger truck for each) in the last 5 years… She loved camping! She loved telling jokes and making people laugh. She always wanted to be the life of the party. She left an impression on everyone she met, and her spirit is sure to live on. 

Chris was predeceased by her sister Joanne Johnson, father Donald P. Johnson, mother Alice Loveless Johnson, father and mother-in-law Arthur Barriere and Rita Favreau Barriere, and brother-in-law Walter Peter Light. 

Chris is survived by her husband Romeo Barriere, daughter Jennifer Barriere and her husband David Kenney, daughter Jamie Barriere and her partner Joe Bombard. Her sisters Patricia Light, Mary Coryer and her husband Ron Coryer, Loraine Light and her husband Michael Light. And her grandchildren Gavin Barriere, Abby Barriere, and Benjamin and Alice Kenney. 

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Plattsburgh Relay for Life, P.O. Box 10727 Rochester, NY 14610

Calling hours will be Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 at the Ross Funeral Home in Mooers.  A funeral service will be Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ross Funeral Home in Mooers.
