Donald Francis Turner, 66, of Mooers, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 28, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born on Oct. 10, 1954, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., son of the late William F. and Leona V. (St. Hiliare) Turner.
A lifelong resident of the area, Don attended Northeastern Clinton Central School in Champlain. An avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting, he also had a talent for finding vintage treasures and collectibles and restoring them to their original condition. He worked for many years as a trackman for the Canadian National Railroad before finishing his career with the Canadian Pacific Railroad.
Survivors include his loving wife, Karen; his children, Shawn Turner of Marshfield, Mass.; Jeb Assaf and his wife, Allison, of Ancaster, Ontario; Darby Dupree and husband, Tyson, of West Chazy; Leona Turner and her partner, Aidan Roberts, of Mooers; and his beloved golden retriever, Max. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Turner and wife, Brenda, of Rouses Point; his sister, Mary Corcoran of Rouses Point; his grandchildren, Isabelle, Brooks, and Piper Assaf; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, John Turner.
Calling hours will be held Monday, May 3, 2021, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ross Funeral Home, 2586 State Route 11 in Mooers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don's memory to Champlain-Mooers EMS.
