Ellen Moore Lacey, age 81, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026. Born on February 26, 1945, in Malone, NY, she was the daughter of Claude and Leone Honsinger Moore.

Ellen devoted her career to nurturing young readers as a Reading Teacher in the Plattsburgh City School District, where she worked until her retirement. A lifelong lover of books, she kept hundreds of them in her home—each one a companion, a curiosity, or a doorway into another world.

Her joy in tending to growing things was just as deep. Ellen spent countless happy hours in her flower gardens at her home in Plattsburgh, and she volunteered at a nearby community garden, where she delighted in caring for plants, flowers, and the shared green space that brought neighbors together.

Faith and fellowship were central to her life. Ellen was an active member of the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church, singing in the choir and supporting church activities with quiet dedication and kindness.

Ellen is survived by her daughter, Julia Lacey Febo; her son, Michael (Tammy) Lacey; her brothers, Bruce (Athena) Moore and Dennis (Doreen) Moore; and her grandchildren, Juliano (Eva) Febo and Michaela Lacey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Leone Moore; her brothers, David and Darrell; and her sister‑in‑law, Mary Ann Moore.

A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Ellenburg, NY, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Elmore SPCA or the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church, honoring Ellen’s lifelong love of animals, community, and faith.
