Evelyn M. Gonyo

Evelyn Marion Margaret Gonyo (Lavoie), 89, of Mooers, NY, passed away on September 6,  2023, at UVM Health Network-CVPH in Plattsburgh. She was born on April 22, 1934, in  Plattsburgh, NY. 

Evelyn was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She cherished her  family and always found joy in the presence of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Evelyn will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. 

She is survived by her daughters Brenda Chevalier (David), Debra Winters (Jeff), Julie Blondo  (Scott), and son Timothy Gonyo (Stacie Brooks). She is also survived by her sister Theresa  Hinerth (Noel), brother-in-law Gerald Gonyo, sister-in-law Bonnie Gonyo, Son-in-law, Michael  Horne as well as her 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and  nephews. 

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Antonine (Mailloux) Lavoie, her  husband Arnold Gonyo, her daughter Linda Gonyo-Horne, her son Thomas Gonyo, and her  faithful puppy of over 19 years, Marnie. She was also preceded in death by her brothers-in-law  Charles, Earl, and Harry Gonyo, Leeward Monette, Gerald Bushey, and sisters-in-law Margaret  Monette, Irene Bushey, Shirley Gonyo, and Patricia Wood. 

She attended St. Patrick's School for her primary education and graduated from Rouses Point  High School. Evelyn worked at the Grand Union in Rouses Point, on the family farm, and as a  daycare provider for family and friends for many years. She was actively involved in her  community and was the 1st President of the Mooers Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary,  Altar Rosary Society, Cub Scout Den Mother, and Religious Education Instructor in Mooers and  Rouses Point. For years, she was behind the bar with Arnold at parties and functions for the  Mooers Knights of Columbus. 

In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, jigsaw and hidden object puzzles, and playing games on  her iPad or computer. 

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Ross  Funeral Home in Mooers, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s  Church in Rouses Point, NY on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at 11 AM. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Mooers Free Library or Mooers-Champlain  EMS in memory of Evelyn.
