Fred G. Stone

Fred G. Stone, 77 of Champlain passed away Monday, June 13, 2022 at the UVM Health Network at CVPH.  

He was born May 27, 1945 in Rome, NY.  He was the son of Ralph and Rita Stone.  He married Sandra Duffy June 25, 1966.  Fred was a teacher at Rouses Point Elementary; he also taught the GED program at Dannemora Correctional, Altona Correctional, Bare Hill and Lyon Mountain Correctional.  He was a high school hockey coach and one of the founders of the men's hockey league in Rouses Point and the Rouses Point Replays.  He raced at Airborne Park Speedway in 1966, he was the town youth commissioner in Champlain for many years.  Fred and Russell Mesec built the Burger Island BMX track, races were held there every weekend.  He was also a wedding photographer for several years.  He and his wife Sandra managed the St. Mary’s Mission Center for 17 years.  Fred loved spending time at his lot on Point Au Fer.  

He was predeceased by his parents.

Left to cherish memories of Fred are his wife Sandra Stone of Champlain; his son, Kory Stone of Barre, VT; three brothers, Gary Stone and his wife Barbara and their four children, Christopher, Jared, Shannon and Logan of Schenectady, Ralph Stone Jr. and his wife Patricia of Wappingers Falls, NY, Gerald Stone, his wife Stephanie and his stepson, Hutch of Champlain; three grandchildren, Donald Brandon Muller, Nathan Muller and Kaylynn Stone.  He is also survived by his good friend, William Conover of Greenville, North Carolina.  

Calling hours will be Monday, June 20, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 at the Ross Funeral Home in Mooers.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain.
