Gary C. Whitman

Gary C. Whitman, 67, died suddenly November 15, 2022 at his home in West Chazy, NY with his dogs by his side.

Gary was born in Bennington VT May 6,1955 and was raised in Latham NY. He was the son of the late R. Gerald and Ruth (Vosburgh).  Gary received his early education at St. Ambrose in Latham, graduated Keveny Memorial Academy High School in Cohoes, NY and went on to Paul Smith School of Forestry.

Gary’s work life was rich in experiences including working with troubled kids, Big Brother/Sister, cross country CDL driver, farming, landscaping and snow plowing.  He loved seeing new places, taking in the beauty of nature, and helping people create landscapes and gardens. Mowing lawns was Zen for Gary and he often said the grass spoke to him.  He was devoted to Mikey, his dog for the last 9 years and Mikey returned that devotion. Gary had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh.

Survivors include his sister Cheryl Whitman (Lynn) of Colchester, CT, his brother Rory Whitman (Karen), sisters in laws Karen J Whitman of North Petersburgh NY, and Karen Jones Whitman of Hoosick Falls NY along with a number of cousins and nieces.

Gary was pre-deceased by his older brother Ronald Whitman (2009) and younger brother Timothy Whitman (Oct, 2022).

Gary did not want us to be sad and mournful at his passing.  Per his request there will be no calling hours.  He will be cremated and a celebration of life and hope will be held in the Spring when the flowers bloom and we can play music and dance to his memory.
