George R. Burleigh Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Robert Burleigh, a beloved son, father, brother, and beloved partner, who left us on November 20, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on August 27, 1958, in Plattsburgh, NY, George spent most of his life in Mooers Forks, where he developed deep roots in his community and created lasting memories with his family and friends.

George was known for his dedication to his work as a maintenance welder at Marine Village in Point Au Roche, NY. He took great pride in his craftsmanship and the relationships he built with his colleagues. A skilled and adventurous man, George enjoyed a variety of pastimes. Whether it was fishing, hunting, gardening, sewing, camping or four-wheeling, he approached life with passion and enthusiasm. His love for NASCAR was also well known among friends and family, where he would cheer for his favorite drivers with unwavering loyalty.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his beloved partner, Tammy Barcomb. George is survived by his son, Brad Burleigh, and daughter, Alicia Burleigh. He was a cherished brother to Paul LaValley (Nancy), Robert, Peter and Andrew Burleigh, Sisters Beverly Lamberton (James), Ruby Garrand (Leon),Marilyn Lacount (David), Norma Begor (Larry), Rosemary Lamarche, Carol Rabideau, and Mary Burleigh; brother-in-laws, Ernest Barcomb Jr, Dale Barcomb and his significant other, Diana, sister-in-laws, Dianna Shaw, Susan Shaw, Betty Smith and Laurie Garlock (Roger). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, very close and dear friends who will all carry fond memories of him in their hearts.

George’s love for animals was evident in his cherished pets who brought joy and companionship to his life. His vibrant spirit and deep appreciation for the great outdoors will be celebrated and remembered by all who knew him.

Family and Friends will have the opportunity to pay their respects during a public viewing at St. Ann’s Church in Mooers Forks from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM on Monday, November 24, 2025 following with a mass in honor of George’s life at 1:00 PM.  Following the mass, a graveside service will be held at St. Ann’s Cemetery. 

The family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Elmore SPCA in Peru, NY, to honor George’s passion for animals and support those in need.

As we celebrate the life of George Robert Burleigh, we remember his adventurous spirit, generous heart, and the indelible mark he left on all of us. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

George was preceded in death by his parents Wilfred & Beatrice LaValley, Andrew & Lorraine Burleigh and In-laws Ernest & Marcella Barcomb,  Sisters Margaret Page, Joan LaCount, brother Alex Burleigh, brother in-laws Russell LaCount, James Page, Donald & Robert Shaw, Francis Smith, Lloyd Dicksonand niece Jennifer Barcomb, great great niece Jaidyn Bigelow.
