Gerald J. Arno, 82, of Champlain passed into the arms of Jesus November 18, 2023 at CVPH. Gerald was born December 1, 1940 in his childhood home in Champlain. He was the son of the late Alvin and Loretta (Hebert) Arno.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Jane (Robinson) Arno on July 9, 1966.
Gerald was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Donald Arno and Robert Arno, as well as his sister in law Nancy Robinson and his brother in law Ronald Robinson.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Jane Arno; one son, G. James Arno and his wife Karen, along with two grandsons J.J. (James) and Reese Arno of Pineville, K.Y. Gerald is also survived by his sister, Theresa Rabideau as well as his brother in law and childhood friend, Donald Robinson and sister in law Judy (Ronald) Robinson.
Gerald is a lifelong resident of Champlain, working first as a farmer on his family farm, then driving a truck for Harvey & Co., Bordeau Bros. and Anchor Motor Freight. Gerald was active in his community. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the Champlain Council; a union member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, a member of Master Gardeners and the Town of Champlain Zoning Board and Woodmen of the World.
He was very active with many local charities, often donating his time and skills. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, cooking and home projects.
Gerald always loved animals, especially his beloved dog Jack. He will be missed by many, including his family, numerous friends and coworkers.
Calling hours will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Champlain from 10;30-12:00 noon on Saturday, December 2, 2023. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at noon. A celebration of Gerald’s life will follow at the Knights of Columbus in Champlain.
Donations may be made in Gerald’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to the local ASPCA.
