Gerald Michael Hicks, 71, passed away unexpectedly on January 25, 2023.
He was born on July 27, 1951, to Robert and Kathleen Hicks in Woburn, Massachusetts.
Gerry attended Northeastern University in Boston, MA and graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. He went on to earn a Master of Business Administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Gerry moved to Rouses Point, New York in 1978 and worked as a pharmacist for Wyeth-Ayerst Pharmaceuticals, as well as several local pharmacies, before retiring from SterRx in 2020.
Gerry had a love of hockey and spent many years coaching for the North Country Youth Hockey program, as well as the NCCS high school hockey team. In an effort to spend even more time at the rink, he refereed hockey games at all levels and played on several men’s league teams.
Gerry was an avid cyclist and completed the cross-country PAC Tour, riding from Washington to Virginia in 21 days, in 1992.
In retirement, Gerry prioritized spending time with his children and grandchildren, fishing, being bad at golf, and working as a Meals on Wheels and an Americorps Senior volunteer. In his 2 ½ years as a volunteer, he drove scores of veterans, vulnerable seniors, and disabled residents to their medical appointments all over Clinton County. He assisted seniors with their grocery shopping, providing transportation and, at times, delivering groceries directly to homebound seniors.
Gerry is survived by his best friend and former spouse, Carol Hicks; son, Kyle Hicks; daughters, Sarah Valk and husband Tim, Danielle Belford and husband Justin, Alyssa Hicks and companion Hunter; grandchildren, Aubrey and Owen Valk, Weston and Hudson Belford; sisters, Leona (Russell) Peterson, Linda Norton; brother, Robert Hicks; several nieces and nephews; and a Boston Bruins team currently in first place.
