James McComb Obituary

James(Jim) Mccomb 71 passed away September 3 2022 at his home with family by his side after a long hard fought battle with esophageal cancer.

Jim was born on August 27, 1951, the firstborn son of Harold and Irene (Nephew) Mccomb. He grew up on a small farm with his parents and 2 brothers in Cannon Corners, where he learned the meaning of hard work at a very young age.

Jim graduated from Mooers School in 1969 and started his 35 year employment at Ayerst/Wyeth/Pfzer. In 1974, he met his wife, the former Peggy DuBrey and after a 4 month dating period, they were married September 28, 1974 at St Bernard church in Lyon Mountain, Jim and Peg were married for 48 years and were blessed with 2 wonderful children, Christopher and Meagan who also learned the ethics of hard work and honesty from their father. Upon retiring from Pfzer, Jim started work at Chazy central school as supervisor of buildings and grounds,

After 9 years at Chazy, Jim moved on to Bernier and Carr associates as a Construction manager, where he remained employed until illness forced him to leave this job. Jims passion in life was racing. In his teen years, he dragged in Napierville, Canada and in his early 20s decided to give stock car racing a shot. He frequented local tracks, including Airborne, Malone Speedway, Frogtown, and occasionally took his modified to larger tracks in Canada. His love of racing wasnt limited to the track, he also like to “clean out the carburetor” on a few back roads as well.

Jim loved to go out and eat , and every waitress that he got to know earned the nickname “Flossie”. Esophageal cancer took that pleasure away from him.

Jim liked everyone he met and treated everyone with respect and kindness. He was well liked by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He loved to laugh and you could recognize that laugh across a room.

Jim was a family man and adored his children and grandchildren. He bragged about them to anyone who would listen.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy of 48 years, son Christopher and daughter in law Carrie Frederick, daughter Meagan and fiance Brad McQueen, 5 favorite grandchildren: Casey Frederick, Kya Mccomb, Kenadie Mccomb, Keelin Mccomb and Rian Oconnor; two brothers, Ross and Carla Mccomb and Dan and Deb Mccomb and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and grandparents

The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the staff on Miller 3 at UVM and a special thank you to Dr. Edward Barrazo for his care and concern during Jims long illness and to Dr. Winfield and staff at Hudson Headwaters for making his last days as comfortable as possible Calling hours will be Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Ross Funeral Home in Mooers.  A funeral service will be celebrated Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.
