James P. McDonough Obituary
James Patrick McDonough, 71, passed away on February 10, 2026, in Rouses Point, New York. Born on February 18, 1954, in Burlington, Vermont. He was the fourth of five sons of F. Joseph and Virginia (McNeive) McDonough.
Pat attended St. Mary's Academy in Champlain, St. John's Academy in Plattsburgh, and graduated from Northeastern Clinton Central School in Champlain, New York. He continued his studies at Loyola College of Montreal in Canada.
Pat is survived by his two daughters, Katie McDonough and Chelsey McDonough; his grandchildren, Tayla Lewis, Emmaleigha Brant, Calum Brant, and Patrick McDonough; his brothers, Dan McDonough (Joan), Jack McDonough (Lucy), Tim McDonough, and Rob McDonough (Kim). He will also be fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews. Pat was predeceased by his parents and his grandson, James McDonough.
A passionate sports fan, Pat supported the Boston Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, New England Patriots, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He also enjoyed playing basketball in high school and was an avid golfer. He was an excellent cook and loved to experiment in the kitchen. He had an ear for music and could play a little piano. Later in life Pat toyed with his harmonica. He was a big fan of Randy Newman, John Prine, the Clancy Brothers and all things Irish.
Pat was first employed with the Delaware and Hudson Railroad. He originally worked on the "section", replacing rails and ties. He eventually became a brakeman. A job he truly loved, building trains in the Rouses Point yard, then riding them down to Whitehall, NY. Upon the sale of the D & H Railroad, he was forced to find other employment. Pat then hired on with the New York State Department of Corrections, working at several downstate facilities before landing at Altona Correctional where he eventually retired.
Pat's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his legacy bring comfort to all who mourn his passing. RIP "B.A." 12979!
A Funeral Mass will be held on August 1st, 2026, at 11:00am at St. Patrick's Church on Lake Street in Rouses Point. Burial to follow at St. Patrick's cemetery.
