Obituary

Jean Marie Langr, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2022 with her family by her side. She faced her struggles with Alzheimer’s and heart disease with grace and courage.

Jean graduated salutatorian of Mount Kisco High School class of 1952. She was joined in marriage by her childhood friend, Frank Langr of Northville in 1956. A computer specialist with the IBM corporation for many years, Jean was highly commended for displaying exceptional dedication, teamwork and expertise. While working full time at IBM, she was also the organist at First Methodist Church in Mount Kisco, all while being an attentive and nurturing mother. She consistently encouraged her sons interests, supported them in every way and always made sure there was plenty of fun to go around. Even though Jean was a busy woman, she often found time to share her talents and energy for worthwhile projects, and to help those in need.

In retirement Jean enjoyed being a snowbird, splitting her time between Melbourne, Florida and Northville, NY. In Florida she loved beachcombing, tennis, golf and going to lunch with her friends. In New York she enjoyed the family camp on the Sacandaga Lake, visits from family, hummingbirds and watching sunsets over the mountains. Travel was one of Jean’s passions and she especially enjoyed spending time exploring Europe, Hawaii, California, and Grand Teton National Park. Pets were always a bright spot for Jean, especially Baby, her orphan squirrel and Sam, the family cat. Jean’s greatest joy was time spent with her five granddaughters playing games, swimming, campfires on the beach, and lots of hugs.

Jean was the daughter of Newton H. Bates and Orthanette C. Townsend. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Frank Jr. and Kathleen of Champlain, NY; son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathryn of Salt Lake City, Utah; and five granddaughters, Caitlin, Meaghan, Madeleine, Kristen and Molly. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her family.
