Joanne Betters Obituary

Joanne I. (Belzile) Betters passed on April 26, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was born in November of 1951, the second child and oldest daughter to Roger and Lucy (Raymond) Belzile of Amqui, Quebec. She was raised in Willsboro, N.Y., and spent her life there raising her own family. Joanne spent 49 years as an unwavering and loyal wife to George, her high school sweetheart, whom she married in August of 1970.
A self-taught accountant, Joanne contributed to the success of various businesses as the unofficial bookkeeper. She assisted in getting one of Willsboro's first hardware stores off the ground and running. Later, she kept the books for George's General Contracting business. Joanne spent more than 20 years working for the Town of Willsboro as the bookkeeper. During her time working for the town, she formed close friendships with special colleagues. Each holiday season, Joanne loved to bake cakes, cookies and snacks to express the fondness she felt for her work family. Most recently, Joanne worked at the Champlain Valley Senior Community in Willsboro. There, Joanne was able to care for and enjoy some intense games Rummikub with her mother.
Joanne dedicated her life to caring for and raising her daughters, Dana, Jill and Courtney. She cherished and supported 'her girls' with unconditional love and devotion. When her daughters began their own families, Joanne naturally became Grammy to her five adored grandchildren. Devi, Oliver, Avery, Emmit and Philip were always greeted by Grammy's sweet, quiet personality, special little gifts and the best hugs around, rewarding her with their endless love in return.
Joanne had many personal interests. She found delight in cooking meals and baking decadent treats for family and friends. Filling her table with loved ones, and sharing the wonderful meals she created, brought her true happiness. Joanne also had a remarkable, almost magical, green thumb. Each spring and summer, she turned her yard into a beautiful oasis of color; making her backyard the ideal place for her summer cookouts with family. Joanne was member of the Beautification Committee in Willsboro, where she spread her love of gardening throughout the small town. Throughout her life, Joanne always had a deep love for reading, a passion she passed on to all three of her girls.
Joanne is survived by her husband, George Betters; two brothers, Daniel Belzile and Gilbert Belzile; three sisters, Nancy Belzile, Diane Formway and Lori Polhemus; three daughters, Dana (David) Lee, Jill (Joe) Restifo, and Courtney Aloi; grandchildren, Devi Lee, Oliver Lee, Avery Lee, Emmit Aloi and Philip Restifo; and many nieces and nephews.
Joanne had a special love for her cats, as her fur babies gave her so much unconditional love and enjoyment. She would've been touched to have any donations in her honor made to the North Country SPCA, 7700 NY-9N, Elizabethtown, NY 12932.
There will be a private, graveside service for family and close friends in June.
