John Murphy III Obituary

John J. Murphy III, known by most people as “Murphy”, 63, of Rouses Point, passed away on April 18, 2026.

John was born on May 13, 1962 to John & Mildred Murphy in Norfolk, Virginia. Shortly after, they relocated to New Jersey.  After graduating from Cedar Ridge High School, John proudly served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge in 1988.

On September 18, 1982, John married the love of his life, Trudy Terry. Together, they raised John J. Murphy IV and Laura N. Murphy.

After leaving the Army John settled in Rouses Point, where he worked as a mechanic at Gaines Marina.  He was later employed as a truck driver for 16 years, and then went on to work at Champlain Peterbilt as an engine tech for 15 years.

John had many hobbies. He enjoyed collecting and working on old car projects, camping, and a labor of love was building the barn with his wife, Trudy. After retirement, John’s passion for woodworking grew strong as he dedicated many hours creating beautiful pieces of furniture, such as TV stands, bookshelves, fireplace inserts and more. But what gave him the greatest joy was creating beautiful crosses to be given away. To him, the cross was the center of faith, and the symbol of hope. They were given to anyone in need for any reason, as a gift. His crosses are truly spread all over the world, in places as far as Africa. The crosses that stand in his yard are there to offer a beacon of hope as people drive by. Not only did he have a compassionate heart for anyone suffering but he also had a kind heart for animals, rescuing many dogs and cats over the years. In the past few years, his dog Buster (aka Boober) and his cats, Ella Mae, Charli and Toni, brought joy and a smile to his face.

John was predeceased by his father, John J. Murphy, Jr., and his father-in-law, James J. Terry.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 43 years, Trudy Murphy, his son, John J. Murphy IV, his favorite daughter in law, Nicole Murphy, his daughter, Laura Murphy, his son in law Gene Farnham and six grandchildren, Aidan, Michael, Kadence, Finn, Wyatt, and Owen. His mother, Mildred, and his siblings, Cheryl Dinkelocker and Wayne Murphy. And his honorable son, Eric Belrose.

His faith in God was at the center of all that he did. He loved his church and the Wednesday Night Bible Study, often saying he drew strength from the time spent together.

Trudy would like to express her gratitude for the outpouring of support of family and friends, most especially her daughter-in-law, Nicole, who has gone above and beyond to help in every way possible. Our family is truly blessed to be surrounded by so many caring people.

A private prayer service will be held for his family, to honor his memory and celebrate his life.

The family requests that any memorial contributions may be made to Christ & St. John’s Church, PO Box 240, Champlain, NY 12919, in his memory.
