Linda L. LaPorte, 79, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026, in Plattsburgh, New York. Linda was a feisty, big-hearted woman who loved fiercely and fought just as hard. If you knew her, you knew she was strong willed and she did nothing halfway—especially loving her family and friends.
Born in Plattsburgh, New York, Linda was the daughter of Antoine and Addarine (Dame) Phaneuf. She spent her early years on a farm in Altona, where she was truly the apple of her father’s eye. She attended Altona High School, and during that time she met her future husband, Albert LaPorte, and they went on to raise four children.
Linda is survived by her daughters, Melissa LaPorte of Champlain, New York, and Jessica Badger of Rouses Point, New York. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: James Menard (Ryan Wood) of Plattsburgh, New York; Katelyn LaPorte (Caleb Lazarski) of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; Karissa (Nicholas) Bouchard of Avondale, Arizona; Megan LaPorte of Plattsburgh, New York; Mitchell (Brittaney) LaPorte of Wilmington, North Carolina; Mikayla LaPorte of Asheville, North Carolina; and her two cherished boys who were truly the apple of her eye, Keaton and Camden Badger of Rouses Point, New York. She is also survived by her sister‑in‑law Tammy LaPorte of Rouses Point, New York, Linda also adored her great‑grandchildren beyond measure: Porter and Liam Menard; Aubree Wright; Chloe Merry and Zander LaPorte; and Jaxsen, Jamisen, Jonah, and Jeffrey LaPorte.
Linda was predeceased by her beloved husband, Albert LaPorte; her sons Michael LaPorte and Albert “Joe” LaPorte, whom she loved and missed deeply; her parents; her brother; and her sister‑in‑law Christine LaPorte.
Linda was a friend to many. Sitting in solitude was never her style; she thrived on conversation and connection. Linda loved socializing, making new friends (and occasionally a rival or two), playing cards, painting ceramics, birdwatching, crafting, and cleaning. There was always something that needed to be cleaned—sometimes even if it had just been cleaned the week before.
Linda had a remarkable gift for making friends wherever she went. In July of 2024, she moved into Bechard’s Senior Housing, where she either formed new friendships or happily reunited with old ones who remained close to her heart—Gloria, Penny, Patty, Loretta, Roger and Glenn, Millie, Ken, Danielle and Randy who lovingly adopted Linda as his own while caring for his mother.
She had many dear friends whom she treasured, including Lori Brink; Dale and Linda Nichols; Brandon McCauslin; and her forever son‑in‑law, Mark Badger.
The family would like to thank the staff at CVPH and Meadowbrook for the care and kindness they showed Linda. Your patience, warmth, compassion, and good humor never went unnoticed—an essential quality when caring for someone with Linda’s strong will. You treated her with dignity, respect, and just enough indulgence to keep her happy, which meant a great deal to her and to us.
Arrangements are with the Ross Funeral Home in Champlain, New York. There will be no calling hours. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
