Paul D. Sterling Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul D. Sterling, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Paul was born on June 14, 1944, in Chazy, NY, and entered eternal rest on May 20, 2026. He spent most of his life in Champlain, NY, where he built a cherished community and legacy.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Rita Sterling.
Paul was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, June Sterling, and a proud father to his children, David and Laureen Sterling, and Lisa and Dean Surprenant, who were a source of pride and joy for him. He also leaves behind a loving family, including his grandchildren, Brittany and Shawn Joy, Brooke Surprenant and fiancée, Kelly Bush, Alex and Hannah Sterling, and Kevin and Courtney Sterling, and his two great-grandchildren, Lucy Joy and Harrison Sterling, who will forever hold dear the memories of his gentle spirit and infectious smile. Paul is also survived by his brothers, Loyal, Rodney, and Robert Sterling, and his sisters, Susie Desotelle, Brenda Kirk, Elaine Gaudette, Cheryl Pigg, and Denise Morrison, and special neighbor, Wayne LaValley.
For many years, Paul dedicated himself to his work as a mechanic and autobody specialist, operating his own business, North Country Auto. His passion for automobiles, whether it was mechanical repairs or bodywork, shined through every project he undertook. A talented welder, Paul was known for his hard work and determination, qualities that he instilled in his family. He held various jobs throughout his life, from picking up milk, to delivering fuel oil and kerosene, and working at Harris Graphics. These experiences shaped him into the resourceful and industrious man we cherished.
Though Paul dedicated his life to his craft, his heart was equally big. He had a remarkable love for animals, especially cats, often rescuing those in need and granting them the warmth and care they deserved. His compassionate spirit extended beyond the walls of his home, as he fostered many connections with his community.
Family and friends are invited to leave an online condolence to honor Paul's memory, acknowledging the profound impact he had on all who knew him.
A celebration of Paul's life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Paul's memory to the Champlain EMS or the Elmore SPCA, organizations dear to his heart, helping others in need as Paul always did.
Paul will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His love, legacy, and the lessons he imparted will continue to guide and inspire us. May he rest in peace.
Arrangements are in the care of Ross Funeral Home in Mooers, NY.
