Reginald R. Gale, passed away on May 13, 2022 at 91 years of age with his daughter and son-in-law at his side at The Villa in St Albans, Vermont.  Reginald Ralston Gale, Jr. was born on July 13, 1930 in New York, NY the son of Dorothy M. Gale and Reginald R. Gale.  

Reg began his career in retail as a young man.  Working his way up to management, Reg worked with companies such as Grandway, Montgomery Wards, and Magrams.  His work took him from New York, to New Jersey, to Kingston and ultimately to Plattsburgh NY.  In addition to his work, he was a volunteer fire fighter, a Mason and belonged to many other community organizations.  His longest and most well-known employment was as General Manager of Magrams in Plattsburgh, NY for many years.  

Despite being born in the city, Reg always wanted to be a horseman.  As a young man in the city of New York he cleanedstalls at the famous Clermont Stable to be around horses. He realized his dream later when he and his wife, Lillian purchased their home in Cadyville, New York.  He built a barn and through the years owned 10 horses.  Their initial intent was to breed and sell horses, but after the first two foals were kept, they realized they did not want to sell them and Gale Stables became their hobby farm.  In addition to the horses, over the years they had chickens, ducks, dogs, and cats to add to the family.

Reg was actively involved in supporting his daughter Lisa’s riding throughout her life and as an extension volunteered at Pony Club, 4H, and local horse shows.  He was a member of the Morgan Horse Club and enjoyed helping at horse shows into his senior years.  He also developed an interest in driving horses and adopted a Standardbred through a Vermont rescue and competing in driving.  He maintained his farm until well into his 80’s.

Beyond horses and work, Reg loved music and he and Lillian were wonderful dancers.  He enjoyed live music.  He loved reading and developed a passion for sketching in later life.  He enjoyed boating and spent many happy summers with Dick & Alice Gilberg on their boat in Canada.  He also enjoyed going to the theater at The Flynn and St Michael’s Playhouse.  He supported and followed his granddaughter Gwen in her pursuit of ballet.  For many years, he also took care of his mother Dorothy Gale and Lillian’s mother Della Boissy, who both lived with them until their deaths.  Recent summers he spent with visiting with Harold Downs both at their home and at camp on Pointe au Roche.

Reginald Gale was blessed with marriage to Lillian B. Gale, who predeceased him. She was the love of his life and he will be interned with her at the Riverside Cemetery in Mooers, New York on Saturday August 20, 2022 at 1:00pm.  A Memorial Ceremony will be held at the grave site.  He is survived by Lisa Gale Peery, of Georgia, Vermont, Reg Gale of Amityville, New York, Betsy Wager of Henderson, North Carolina, Jeff Leide of Hurdle Mills, North Carolina.  He is also survived by his step-daughter Susan M. Gleason of Key Largo, Florida, who with her husband Duane Gleason visited often and helped with his care prior to his relocation into The Villa in St. Albans, Vermont after the death of Lillian.  Reg was predeceased by his oldest daughter Patricia Bridges.  He is survived by 15 grandchildren.
