Rita E. Monette

Rita E. Monette, 82, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, surrounded by family at Plattsburgh Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Plattsburgh, NY. Rita was born on July 13, 1943, the daughter of George A. Racine and Gladys B. (Boulerice) Racine.

She spent her early years on the family farm in Champlain, NY. After graduating from St. Mary’s Academy, she attended cosmetology school in Albany, NY. Once she obtained her license, she opened “Rita’s Beauty Salon” in the former Village of Mooers. Later, she moved her salon to her home on Route 22, so that she could continue doing what she loved while raising her family.

After retiring, Rita began volunteering her time and helping those in need at the Salvation Army Community Center, the St. Mary’s Mission Center and Hospice of the North Country. She was always there to lend a hand and pitch in when the need arose. Rita was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus and a group leader for the local 4-H Council.

Some of Rita’s favorite pastimes included crafting, singing old French songs, going thrifting, attending the weekly Bridge Street auction, and spending time with her close-knit group of friends.

Rita is survived by her daughter, Monique Monette; her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Jolene Monette; her grandchildren, Ashley Monette, Morgan Monette and Lovisa Ford; her sister, Jeanne Casaverde; and her niece and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Juvenal Casaverde.

Arrangements are in the care of the Ross Funeral Home in Mooers, NY. There will be no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 90 Church Street, Champlain, NY.
