Shirley L. Bechard, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on October 31, 2025, at the age of 96. She was born on March 30, 1929, the daughter of the late Ruth and Earl Legnard, Sr., and was a lifelong resident of Rouses Point, NY. A remarkable woman, she was youthful beyond her years and proved that age was just a number.

Shirley married Marcel Bechard June 10, 1950, and together they raised three daughters—Linda, Bonnie, and Susan. She loved to spend time with her family and special friends and found much joy and pride in her daughters, granddaughters, and great grandchildren.

During her career, Shirley proudly served as the Executive Secretary to the President of F. W. Myers customs broker in Rouses Point. She had a keen talent for needlework and enjoyed gardening, shopping, traveling, and most of all family gatherings.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents and husband Marcel, daughter Linda, brother Earl Jr. and sister Virginia. and loving companion Joseph Proulx. Her memory will be forever held in the hearts of her surviving family—daughters and sons-in-law--Bonnie and Tom Fitzpatrick, Susan and Dave Mayette, and Rick Pickering; grandchildren Jennifer, Angela (RJ), Laurie (Jeff), Lisa (Mike), Katie (Kris), and Tierney (Alex); her great grandchildren Nicholas, Jack, Clara, Gueneviere, Scarlett, and Vivienne; and several nephews and nieces.

Calling hours will be held from 4 - 6 pm on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Ross Funeral Home in Mooers, NY. A service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held November 8, 2025, at 11 am at St. Patrick’s Church in Rouses Point, NY. Following the service, Shirley will be laid to rest at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Rouses Point.

In lieu of flowers, her family kindly requests donations be made to the Rouses Point Fire Department.

Shirley L. Bechard will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and companion.
