Steven A. McMillan Obituary
Steven Anthony McMillan of Lakeland, FL peacefully earned his angel wings at his loving home with family by his side on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024 at the age of 72. He was born the son of Ernst and Ruby (Willey) McMillan on December 9, 1951, in Westover, MA.
Being the son of a military man, Steven lived in Italy and across the U.S. before settling in Vermont, and later in Champlain, NY. Steven led a full, generous and devoted life entering the Navy right out of high school and proudly serving aboard the USS Midway CV-41 in Vietnam until 1972. After completing his college degree in Criminal Justice at Clinton Community College while playing football, and then participating in the 1980 U.S. Winter Olympics Bobsled Division as the brakeman in Lake Placid, NY, he started his career working in the newspaper industry, installing equipment worldwide for almost 40 years under Harris Graphics, Heidelberg and Goss International.
Steven’s love of family and friends always came first over his passion for music, camping, bowling, golf, his collection of sports cars (especially his corvettes), and sharing stories of his time aboard ship with friends and family with a nice glass of Chardonnay in hand.
Left to cherish his memory and his unbridled zest for life are his wife, Christine (Lashway) McMillan of Lakeland FL, his daughter Shannon Birkett-Laramie and husband George of Champlain NY, his stepson Brandon LaRock of Dade City FL, his son Chad and his wife Rupal (Patel) McMillan of Washington DC, a granddaughter Taylor Downs of Champlain NY, a grandson Ethan LaRock of Dade City FL, a grandson Noah McMillan, and a granddaughter Anjali McMillan, both of Washington DC. He is also survived by a brother Francis and wife Samantha, a brother Patrick and his wife Susan, a sister Debbie Deyo, a sister Patricia Lucca and a sister Cecilia Smail and husband Gary. Also grieving his departure are sister-in-law Julie (Lashway) Rigsbee and husband Mark, brother-in-law Neil Lashway, brother-in-law Arnold Lashway and wife Robin, sister-in-law Laura Trahan, brother-in-law Mark Tetrault and wife Jeannie, brother-in-law Alan Tetrault and wife Debbie, brother-in-law Bryan Tetrault and wife Marion, brother-in-law Robert Tetrault, sister-in-law Nancy O’Toole and husband Steve Hitch and many nieces and nephews.
Steven was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Karen (Tetrault) McMillan, a brother John McMillan, a brother Bobby McMillan, a brother Wendell McMillan and dear-to-heart brothers-in-law Terry Lashway and Kevin Deyo.
Heartfelt appreciation is extended to family and friends for their love, support and compassion during Steven’s final months in addition to special gratitude to Vitas Hospice of Lakeland, FL, niece Sandy McMillan of Apopka, FL as well as very dear friends Bill and Kalah Carlson of Lakeland, FL, Shirlee Wagner-Secreto of Lakeland, FL and Cathy and Paul Mazurowski of Lakeland, FL.
A visitation will be held Friday, August 9th, 2024 from 4:00-7:00p.m. at the Funeral Home at 196 Elm Street, Champlain, NY 12919. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 10th at 11:00a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Champlain.
