Thelma Gloria Gadway

Thelma Gloria Gadway, 95 of Mooers Forks passed away Thursday, March 12, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born November 27, 1924 in Massena, NY to Paul and Ruth (Peets) Miller.

She graduated from Ellenburg Central School in 1944.  During summer vacation from school, she worked at the Loon Lake Inn.  After graduation, she moved to Springfield, MA and did her part for the war effort by making Springfield Rifles.  She also worked at Pal Blade in Plattsburgh for several years. 

She married William Gadway September 12, 1945 at St. Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg, NY.  In 1947 they purchased and ran Gadway’s General Store at Cannon Corners.  She continued to operate the store for many years after her husband’s death in 1970.

She had many fond memories of visiting with friends and neighbors who came to the store.  She enjoyed taking numerous bus tours, especially her trip to the National Parks and Shrines in Canada.  She enjoyed quilting, wildlife and spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Garfield, Hugh and Bruce Miller and one sister, Anita Ingraham.

She is survived by one son, William G. Gadway and his wife Cindy of Ellenburg Depot.  A daughter, Betty Gadway of Mooers Forks; grandchildren, Brandi Patnode of Westport, NY, William J. Gadway and his wife Courtney of Woodstock, GA and Dustin Gadway of Ellenburg Depot; great grandchildren, Hunter Gadway, Makenna and Harper Gadway and Natalie Gilmer.  She is also survived by two sisters, Vilma Pearson of Norfolk, NY and Zenith Dallos of Norfolk, NY; sisters in law, Norma Miller of Norwood, NY, Louise Miller of Zephyr Hills, FL; also, many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 17, 2020 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Ross Funeral Home in Mooers.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church in Mooers Forks.
