Obituary

Therese Bedard Guay, a talented quilter, and crafter who enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family, died Sunday, September 18, 2022. She was 90 years old.

Therese was born September 27, 1931 in Lacolle, Quebec, the daughter of Wilbrod and Aurore Richard Bedard. Therese married Rolland Guay in 1950. They had nine children – four sons and five daughters – whom they raised on the dairy farm they purchased in the late 1950s in Mooers, NY, after emigrating from Canada. Rolland passed away in April 1996.

Therese’s greatest joy was her family, which continued to grow over the years. Each new addition was loved and cherished as much as all the others. She attended numerous baptisms, birthday celebrations, music concerts, plays, sporting events, graduations, racing events and wedding celebrations over the years.  Therese (Memere to her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren) was each member of her family’s number one fan.

As the matriarch of a large family, she led by an example of hard work, love and acceptance, and unending support. She always ensured that her family was well-fed, well-loved and she took great     interest in what everyone was doing. Her passing leaves a void that her family will feel deeply.

Therese is survived by her children: Rolland Daniel and Carolyn Guay of Champlain; Donald and Barbara Guay of Alburgh, VT; David Guay and Karla Juneau of Mooers; Normand and Stephanie Guay of Mooers; Jocelyne and Richard Frisco of Bechtlesville, PA; Frances and Frank Harris of Lexington, KY; Jeannette and Ralph Mitchell of South Burlington, VT; Denise and Lee Gadway of Mooers; and Diane Ducharme and Scott Biondi of St. Albans, VT. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her parents Wilbrod and Aurore Bedard; nine brothers – Elie, Leo, Victor, Wilbrod, Gerard, Adrien, Isidore, Hermas, and Guy; and four sisters – Jeannine, Marie, Marie Rose and Jeannette and daughter- in-law, Marie Guay.

Donations in Therese’s memory may be made to the Mooers Volunteer Fire Department, 2508 US-11, Mooers, NY 12958 or to Hospice of the North Country, 358 Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

Arrangements are entrusted in the care of the Ross Funeral Home in Mooers. A funeral service will be held at 12 pm on Saturday, September 24 at St. Ann’s Church in Mooers Forks. The family will gather at the church to receive guests beginning at 11 am.
