Timothy Gonyo Obituary

Timothy C. Gonyo, 57, of Mooers, N.Y., passed peacefully on December 22, 2025, at UVMHN-CVPH, Plattsburgh, N.Y. after a valiant year and a half long battle against Non- Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Born to Arnold and Evelyn Gonyo, he was raised in Mooers and graduated from NCCS in Champlain, N.Y. While a teen doing chores on his family's dairy farm, he still found time to excel in Model U.N. at school, work at the local drive-in movie theater, and participate at St. Joseph's Church in Mooers. Later, he received a B.A. from SUNY Potsdam, and pursued many careers, not limited to, but including: DJ at local radio station WIRY, manager for Ammex Duty Free (both locally and in Maine), Woodmen Life representative, and, most recently, as a Financial Advisor for Vision Financial Group (a Mass Mutual firm). No matter the work he did, he strived for excellence and professionalism, always finding time to help co-workers and clients alike.

Tim was also passionate about service to his community and active in many organizations. Theta Omega Phi (The Order of Prometheus), Mooers Knights of Columbus, Rouses Point-Champlain Kiwanis, and Woodmen Life Chapter 462 (Chazy, N.Y.) all benefitted from his multi-faceted tech skills and generosity. Additionally, as the Board of Trustees President for Mooers Free Library since 2016, he helped its Board and Directors reenvision the library and make it a community hub.

His pastimes were many, varied, and ever expanding. He enjoyed photography, and his photos (of nature, of friends/family/pets, of 1/6 figures he proudly designed, and so much more) were a fixture of his multiple Facebook pages and other social media accounts. He loved concerts and music, media and movies, poker and pinball, comics and podcasting (lonelyendoftherack.com) and, most importantly, time spent in family and friendship.

He was preceded in death by both parents, as well as siblings Thomas Gonyo and Linda Gonyo-Horne. Left to forever cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Stacie Brooks, and his loving sisters, Brenda Chevalier (David) of Barrington, N.H., Debra Winters of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Julie Blondo (Scott) of Champlain, N.Y. Also in mourning are his sister-in-law, Susan Mahoney (John) of Ellenburg Center, N.Y. and brother-in-law, Michael Horne of Ave Maria, FL. And the (literal) warmth of his presence will be greatly missed by his cats, Padme, Sammy, and Lin Manuel.

The humor and positivity he carried endeared him to all who knew him. His absence is felt by so many that it is impossible to name everyone special in his life--aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and extended family, friends in real life and online (both long-time and recent), co-workers and clients, caregivers both at CVPH Plattsburgh and UVM Burlington. His life was so full of treasured connections; he let those closest to him always know how much they mattered.
