Walter Alfred Laurin, age 94, passed away May 12, 2025. Walter was born in Chazy at the family home on April 12, 1931 to Anthime and Eva Laurin. He married Rita Rae Babbie on October 25, 1952 at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain.

 

Walter was a life long farmer and was a member of the Farm Bureau. He served as the Chairman of the Clinton County Extension Committee. He was on the Board of the Environmental Conservation Committee and was on the committee when the agricultural districts were formed in the county and he served on the Lake Champlain Basin Project. After he retired his farm, Grand Vue Acres, he worked at Bouyea Baking Company, Loomis Armored Car Company and various other jobs, especially working in his large garden.

 

Walter is survived by his wife of 72 years, Rita Rae, and their four children, Bonnie Ann Massey Preston (John), Ricky Howard Laurin (Priscilla), Mark Patrick Laurin and Kevin Walter Laurin; their grandchildren, Erin Rae Armstrong (Chase), Lora Lynn Bullock, Jerrod (Shannon) Laurin, Jana Laurin, Jessica Gilmour (Anthony) and Jason Patrie (Leslie); their great-grandchildren, Elsa Willow Armstrong, Celia Pearl Armstrong, Elle Patrie and Baby Gilmour.

 

He was predeceased by his parents, Anthime and Eva Laurin; his sisters, Anita and Teresa; his brothers, Armand, Marcel, Francis, Richard and Paul; his in-laws, Cyrille and Bertha Babbie; son-in-law, Tom Massey; daughters-in-law, Lynda Laurin and Becky Perry Laurin; grandson-in-law, David Bullock; and brother-in-law, Dick Falcon and many friends.

 

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025 at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Coopersville.

 

Donations may be made in memory of Walter A. Laurin to the American Heart Association.
